What is eSIM and which devices can use it?

An eSIM is an electronic SIM card built into the phone, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. You can use it immediately by scanning a QR code. iPhones from the XS onwards, many Samsung Galaxy models, Google Pixel phones, etc., support eSIM. However, some iPhone and Samsung models purchased in Japan, China, Macau, and Hong Kong may not support eSIM.

How do I install an eSIM?

For iOS:

  1. Open Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM
  2. Select Use QR Code > Scan QR directly or Upload photo from photo library
  3. Name the eSIM My SIM, then complete the installation
  4. Select the newly installed eSIM as the primary line under Cellular Data and tap on the newly installed eSIM to turn on Data Roaming

For Android:

  1. Open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager > Add mobile plan
  2. Select Scan QR code > Scan QR directly or Upload photo from photo library
  3. Name the eSIM My SIM, then complete the installation
  4. Select the newly installed eSIM as the primary line under Mobile data and tap on the newly installed eSIM to turn on Data Roaming

Note: Before installation, please ensure your device supports eSIM and has received the QR code or necessary information from My SIM.

Is it possible to install multiple eSIMs on a single device?

You can install multiple eSIMs on one device. However, please note that only one eSIM and one physical SIM can be used simultaneously, allowing you to use two different phone numbers on the same device. You can change each eSIM's internet connection in the "Mobile Data" settings. It's advisable to give your eSIMs easily recognizable names, especially when installing multiple eSIMs on one phone.

Can eSIM be used in conjunction with a Vietnamese SIM card?

Absolutely. You can keep your primary SIM for domestic calls and texts while using My SIM's eSIM for internet access abroad. This feature is very convenient, as there's no need to remove your SIM, and it ensures continuous connectivity. Make sure your primary SIM is registered for roaming before you leave Vietnam. Do not enable the "allow mobile data switching" function to prevent your phone from using data from your primary SIM. Using a roaming SIM from Vietnam can be very expensive and may cause signal interference in some cases, so unless absolutely necessary, we recommend turning off the Vietnamese SIM line and only using a My SIM line for your phone.

Does eSIM support data tethering?

Most eSIMs allow data sharing via a hotspot. However, depending on your provider and phone model, some plans only support internet access for the device with the eSIM and do not allow Wi-Fi sharing to other devices. Therefore, you should carefully check the eSIM plan information and your phone's configuration before purchasing to ensure data sharing is available.

Can the MySIM travel eSIM be used in many countries?

Yes. My SIM offers many eSIM packages that can be used in multiple countries, helping you connect to the internet in many destinations very conveniently. For example, regional eSIM packages such as the 35 European countries, China - Hong Kong - Macao, Singapore - Indonesia - Malaysia - Thailand,... can work in many countries. You just need to check the list of supported countries in the package description to choose the right one for your needs.

How long is a travel eSIM valid for?

Depending on the package, an eSIM can have a validity period of 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, or 30 days. This period is calculated from the moment you activate the eSIM, not from the time of purchase. Please note that the QR code is valid for 30 days. If there are changes to your flight schedule, please contact My SIM for assistance with cancellation and issuing a new package. With many flexible options such as daily plans and total data plans, you can easily choose an eSIM package with a validity period that suits your travel itinerary.

Can devices other than mobile phones use eSIM My SIM?

This depends on your device's LTE frequency band and the LTE frequency band in your destination country. The device's LTE frequency band must match the frequency band in your destination country.

LTE networks use various frequency bands:

  • North America: primarily 700, 1700, 1900, and 2100 MHz
  • Europe: primarily 800, 1800, 2600 MHz
  • Asia: 1800, 2600 MHz
  • Australia: 1800 MHz
  • Taiwan: 700, 900, 1800 MHz

Therefore, a device might work well in one country but not in another if it doesn't support the appropriate frequency band. For this reason, you need to use a multi-band device to use My SIM eSIM for international travel.

For non-mobile devices with a physical SIM card slot, please contact our customer service department for advice on whether the device supports eSIM and network roaming.

How can I check which eSIM is using data?

For iOS:

  1. Open Settings > Cellular (Make sure you have eSIM enabled)
  2. Select Mobile Data
  3. An eSIM with a tick mark indicates that the eSIM is using data.

For Android:

  1. Open Settings > Connections > SIM Management (Make sure you have eSIM enabled)
  2. Scroll down and check the eSIM data usage under Mobile Data.
Can eSIM share Wi-Fi with other devices?

Most eSIM packages from My SIM allow data sharing via Wi-Fi hotspot. However, some packages may have limitations depending on the carrier's regulations. You should carefully review the information for each package in the product description or contact us for specific advice.

How do I delete my eSIM?

For iOS:

  1. Open Settings > Mobile
  2. Select the eSIM you want to remove from the device. If eSIM is not enabled, turn it on.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Delete eSIM

For Android:

  1. Open Settings > Connections > SIM Management (Make sure you have eSIM enabled)
  2. Select the eSIM you want to remove from the device.
  3. Select Delete eSIM or Remove and confirm.

Note: Once eSIM is removed from the device, it cannot be reinstalled. Therefore, you should consider carefully and only remove it when you no longer need it.

What should I do if I encounter problems activating my eSIM?

If you encounter an error during installation or cannot connect to the network after scanning the QR code, first check if the device is connected to Wi-Fi and ensure you follow the instructions correctly. If it still doesn't work, simply contact My SIM via chat or call 0384.909.454 (hotline) for the quickest support. If you are abroad, please find a Wi-Fi spot at the airport or hotel to contact us. We are always ready to assist you with checking and resolving issues promptly.
